Update: Due to the forecast of plentiful rain and gusty winds on December 11, the Woodland Walk has been cancelled. Sorry to those of you who planned to join the walk, and thanks for your understanding!

Original walk description:

WFTA is partnering with the Weston Council on Aging to host monthly walks on the second Wednesday of the month.

Join us on Wednesday, December 11th at 1 PM for the last COA Woodland Walk of 2024. Joel Angiolillo will lead a mostly flat hike (but with a few more challenging parts) in Hubbard Woods, site of the famous Hubbard Estate. Meet at the Burt Field parking lot at the end of Gail Road (which is off of Oak Street). Dogs on leash or under voice control are welcome. Wear sturdy shoes. The hike will last approximately an hour and a half. Please call to register at 781-786-6280. You will be notified by 12:00 if the walk is cancelled. [Again: the walk has been cancelled, and this was just the original description.]

Winter Solstice Dawn Walk

Saturday, December 21st, 6:30 AM

Hilltop sunrise view with conifers and foggy valleys below.

The Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year, is Saturday, December 21st. Sunrise is 7:12 AM, with dawn officially starting at 6:40 AM. (How do they measure "dawn"? For that matter, is sunrise when the sun first peaks over the horizon, or when it is completely above?) For those hearty pagans who want to greet the turning of the seasons with half-open eyes, join us at the parking lot at the end of Drabbington Way at 6:30 AM. We will hike up Cat Rock in the dark to celebrate the sunrise with hot chocolate. No chickens will be sacrificed. Note: If it is completely overcast or raining, we will postpone the walk until the summer solstice.
