Please join us on Sunday, December 8th at 2 PM to explore the Sears Land and Melone Homestead. Enjoy a special holiday treat and explore remnants of the old Sears Estate. We will walk over the river and through the woods leaving right from Town Green. Meet at the old watering trough on the green and join us for a wonderful journey down memory lane.
Our calendar of guided trail walks is scheduled for the first Sunday of each month from October to May. This December 8 walk is the exception to this rule, thanks to the late Thanksgiving this year! Your printed copy of the schedule was mailed to every household in Weston, and you can review the 2024–2025 Trail Walk Schedule online.
All ages are welcome, as are well behaved dogs on leash. Walkers need not be Weston Forest and Trail Association members, but we encourage you to consider joining us, as dues support the maintenance of Weston’s trails and open spaces. WFTA has been hosting Sunday Walks for over sixty years. Please check our home page for any last minute changes or developments. We hope to see you on the December 8 walk!
Recap: Nov. 3 College Pond Walk
We had a perfect autumn day for our November 3rd monthly walk. WFTA Trustee Gail Palmer led about 30 walkers on a leisurely stroll around College Pond, down recently rerouted trails and through the beautiful fields once farmed by the Jesuits of Weston College.
The walk included stops at the apple orchard, the site of the old Merriam Barn, and the “troll bridge” before concluding back in Burchard Park. Gail stopped every 15 minutes to give the group a little history talk about the origins of Weston College, the ongoing volunteer maintenance of the apple orchard (thank you Rees Tulloss!), the history of the Merriam Barn, and Weston College’s transition to the Campion Center.
For those interested in learning more about the history of Weston, we encourage you to purchase Pam Fox’s book Farm Town to Suburb: The History and Architecture of Weston, Massachusetts.
